2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Buyers Guide

Via: TFLcar.com

If you are in the market for a new Jeep Grand Cherokee, then you are probably know how many options there are. So, Tommy and Nathan decided to sit down and make TFL’s own comprehensive Jeep Grand Cherokee Buyer’s Guide. This video breaks down all of the different trim levels and options to help you pick a Grand Cherokee that best fits your needs.

ENGINE OPTIONS

The Grand Cherokee has a few different options for powertrains. First is the 3.6L Pentastar V6. This engine makes 295 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Power can be sent to two, or all four wheels through an 8-speed auto. The V6 can be had on every trim level with the exception of the SRT.

Next is the 5.7L Hemi V8. This power plant produces 360 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque, a significant upgrade from the V6. Again, power is sent to the wheels through the same 8-speed transmission. This engine is available on some of the higher trim levels and will cost you roughly $3,000 more.

There is a dark horse to mention here in the 3.0L V6 turbo-diesel. Unfortunately, FCA is under investigation with this engine for potentially installing a cheat device. So, it is currently not for sale on the Grand Cherokee. However, if you could buy it, it would make 240 horsepower and a whopping 420 lb-ft of torque.

Finally there is the range topping 6.4L Hemi V8 which makes 475 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. This engine is available exclusively on the SRT trim level. It sends power to all four wheels through a specially tuned version of the same 8-speed auto in the rest of the range. This combo is enough to rocket the Grand Cherokee to 60 MPH in just 4.4 seconds. This performance comes at a price, with the SRT being the most expensive trim available.

Although it isn’t out yet, there will also be a 6.2L Supercharged Hemi V8 available in the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. This motor is a transplant from the Dodge Challenger Hellcat which makes 707 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. Look out for more on that in the near future.

TRIM LEVELS

Now that we know about the different engines you can buy on your Grand Cherokee, we can breakdown all eight – yes, eight – trim levels available on the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Rather than explain them all, I will simply list them here and make you watch the whole Jeep Grand Cherokee Buyer’s Guide to find out what comes with each trim:

In order, you have the Laredo, Laredo E, Altitude, Limited, Trailhawk, Overland, Summit, SRT, and Trackhawk (although this one is not out yet).

Be sure to watch the entire video for a comprehensive explanation of the different trim levels and options available throughout the range. Also be sure to stay tuned to TFLcar for more Jeep Grand Cherokee reviews and news.
